Ancient Guchan

Splendid Ancient example in wool on wool from Guchan, a city located north-west of Mashad on the way to Bojnurd on the border with Turkmenistan. Guchan's artifacts are knotted with a symmetrical, rather coarse knot, on a wool warp, sometimes mixed with goat's wool. The weft is double, made with red-dyed wool yarn. The hems and the two kilim headboards are also in wool if present. Usually the most common format is the Kalleghi. The decoration is linked to Caucasian models; the most frequent pattern includes pairs of star-shaped medallions called Hawz, jugs, on a dark field adorned with a number of minor motifs.
This artifact is intact, period around 1930
